Abstract

In wireless communication Adaptive Intelligent Surfaces (AIS) have emerged as a revolutionary technology in enabling the manipulation of electromagnetic waves through reconfigurable metasurfaces. These surfaces have the capability to reshape incident waves by dynamically modifying their electromagnetic properties. Beamforming, a fundamental signal processing technique, plays a pivotal role in optimizing the performance of AIS-enabled communication systems. This review paper comprehensively surveys the state-of-the-art beamforming techniques employed with adaptive intelligent surfaces. It discusses various AIS techniques, optimization strategies, and practical implementations, highlighting their benefits, limitations, and potential applications. Furthermore, the paper delves into the challenges associated with real-world deployment and provides insights into future research directions..
